Livability 22202

Livability 22202

Developing better, more livable neighborhoods in and around Pentagon City and Crystal City.

About

Livability 22202 is the work of the 3 civic associations of 22202 – Arlington Ridge, Aurora Highlands, and Crystal City.

The residents of 22202 have committed to tackling the challenges facing our area with holistic strategies based on shared livability themes to create a better, more livable city.

Our shared area encompasses diverse populations and neighborhoods, yet we have many common needs. Designing a livable city requires a comprehensive approach to shaping the built environment to enhance the physical and social health and well-being of all inhabitants and to strengthen community.

The Livability 22202 framework is designed to work within existing county plans and policies, but aims to establish consensus-driven themes while allowing for creativity by residents, businesses, and developers. A livable city is responsive to the needs and aspirations of its inhabitants, so a framework requires assessment mechanisms and continual updating.

Workshops

We are organizing a series of workshops to develop a community vision for addressing several of our priorities under the recently developed Livability Framework. These will help refine specific policies we might bring to the County Board, developers, business community, and other entities and provide input to the County’s budget process (the CIP).

So far, we’ve hosted workshops on Housing Affordability and one on Open Space and all have been very successful with broad participation from the community of 22202. Reports, presentations, and other materials resulting from the workshops will be posted to the Documents area as they are completed.

Several planned workshops are being revised due to limitations on public gatherings due to COVID-19. Stay tuned for details on the revised Future of the Underground and Route 1 / East-West Corridors workshops.

In lieu of the planned Future of the Underground workshop, we are putting on the Underground Challenge to spur creative thinking and thoughts about the future of the Underground. Please join in our conversation about this unique space in our community, and use your creativity in one, or all, of the challenges: Write Underground, Underground TikTok, Business Underground.

Stay tuned for details on other revised workshops.
